YouTube Adds 'Tip Jar' To Reward Video Creators

The video sharing website announces a raft of new features for users including clip translation and improved image quality.

Users will soon get an easy way to tip content creators

Every video uploaded to YouTube could one day be translated into every language - one of a range of new features announced by the firm's chief executive.
Susan Wojcicki announced a project called Fan Subtitles, a massive crowdsourced translation effort that encourages bilingual users to type subtitles for their favourite videos.

Fatal accident along Lagos-Ibadan expressway, 6 confirmed dead

A fatal multiple vehicle accident occurred this morning June 27 along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway leaving at least six people dead and causing a traffic gridlock on the road. The accident happened around the Berger/Kara axis of the expressway and was caused by a truck trying to avoid another parked on the road since last month. National Conference says State Police will not be funded by FG

The National Conference sitting in Abuja on Thursday broke a generational jinx with a resolution that henceforth, any state of the federation desirous of having a State Police Force can establish, fund and control it.
This resolution, when enacted into law would put to rest the long debate and controversies over the establishment of state police. The state police when established by states that desired them are to compliment the efforts of the Nigeria Police Force.

The Abia State Police Command says it has raided one Ugorji compound at the Obingwa Local Government Area used by hoodlums as “a training school for kidnappers.”
Commissioner of Police, Adamu Ibrahim, while briefing journalists on Thursday, said 37 suspects were arrested by his men during the raid.

Bomb blast hits Adamawa market

A bomb explosion has been reported at Kasuwan Kuturu market in Mubi Adamawa state.
 
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the Commissioner of Police in Adamawa said the bomb was targeted at a police patrol team but there were no casualties from the explosion.
 
This explosion comes three weeks after a similar bomb explosion rocked a football viewing center in Mubi Adamawa killing 14 people. Details later…

Explosion reported at popular Emab Plaza in Abuja, 21 confirmed dead, 17 injured

The Nigeria Police Force Public Relations Officer, Frank Mba, has confirmed that 21 people died this afternoon when a bomb went off at the very busy Emab Plaza in Wuse 2, Abuja. He also confirmed that 17 people were seriously injured and have been taken to Maitama District Hospital,  Gwarimpa hospital, Wuse hospital, Garki hospital and National hospital.

Mr Mba said one suspect has been arrested and investigations have already started. The bomb is said to have gone off in a car as it passed through the gate of the mall around 4 this afternoon. The fire that followed the explosion is said to have engulfed most of the cars parked around the mall.  See more photos after the cut..

Pictures have emerged of Uruguayan and Liverpool striker Luis Suarez trying to bite Italian defender Giorgio Chiellini (left) 12 months before biting him again at their match last night in Brazil. The first incident happened during a Confederations Cup clash between Italy and Uruguay in 2013.

NDLEA arrests 11 school children over drug abuse and trafficking

Eleven secondary school students and a hotel manager were recently arrested in Kaduna by officials of the Kaduna State National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, after being caught in a hotel taking Psychotropic substances.
 
NDLEA Kaduna State Commander, Mohammed Jibrin made this revelation at The International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking programme which held in Kaduna yesterday, June 24th. 
 
Mr Jibrin said the students comprising of seven girls and four boys were arrested following a tip off, adding that eight of the students arrested were still in Junior Secondary school. He said parents of the students arrested have been invited for questioning and counseling while the hotel manager is still under investigation.

In August 2013, Liverpool player and Uruguay Forward, Luiz Suarez bit Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic during a match in Anfield, an action that got him benched for 10 matches afterwhich he apologized.

Plane flying from Nigeria to Gabon missing

A four-seater plane flying from Nigeria to Gabon via Cameroon has gone missing. The plane, owned by US company, Global Aviation, took off from Kano Airport around 6pm yesterday Monday June 23rd and was billed to make a stop over at Doula Cameroon before continuing to Gabon to arrive at 11pm but it never arrived at Doula, Cameroonian Aviation authorities have said. Only an American pilot was on-board.
 
The Gabon Aviation authorities say the last contact they had with the plane was when it was in Mongo which is a 2-hour flight from the Cameroonian economic capital. Search & Rescue operation has so far not yielded any result but the search operation still continues.

Boko Haram abducts 91 again in Borno state

At least 91 persons, were said to have been abducted by Boko Haram men between Thursday and Sunday from the Kumanza,Yaga and Dagu, Damboa and Dagu, Damboa and Askira Uba Local Government Areas of Borno State, local vigilante officials said yesterday night.

Four other villagers were killed while attempting to escape from their abductors, said Aji Khalil, Chairman, Sector 5 of the local vigilante group in Borno State. Continue...

In a sit down with some journalists yesterday in Ekiti, the Ekiti state governor-elect tells how he managed to defeat a sitting governor
"It is the Lord’s doing. I want to recall that my removal in 2006 remains a mystery to the common man on the streets but they never left me for a day, they believed in me. I want to equally let you know that I was left with the people without money, eight years in the wilderness. My charge to every politician is to target the poor people. Fayose Declared Winner Of Ekiti Governorship Election

 
Ayodele Fayose, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the just concluded election in Ekiti State has been elected Governor.

Announcement of the results of the election was made by the Returning Officer for the 2014 governorship elections and Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Oye-Ekiti, Professor Isaac Azuzu, declaring the candidate of the PDP, Mr Ayodele Fayose winner.
The former governor, who ruled Ekiti State from 29 May 2003 to 16 October 2006, scored a total of 203090 to defeat other candidates who participated in the exercise.

Nigeria made ‘Nigeria’, Africa so proud last night, by winning their world cup match against Bosnia-Herzegovina (1-0).
The President and his aides including, Reuben Abati celebrated the victory at the Aso rock Villa…
I guess this world cup might just be ours..Nigeria is now 2nd in the group with 4 points.
We just need a draw with Argentina to qualify to the next round. Congrats Super Eagles..
