Germany captain Lahm retires from international football.

Germany captain, Phillip Lahm have announced his retirement from international football. The captain of World Cup winning side has decided to bow out of the national team at just 30-years-old, presumably to end that chapter of his career on an unbeatable high. Lahm played 113 games for Germany, scoring five goals, one of which was the opening goal in the Germany 2006 World Cup. Aside from winning the 2014 World Cup, Lahm picked up a runners-up medal at the European Championships in 2008 and also two World Cup bronze medals, in 2006 and 2010.

West Brom have confirmed the signing of Nigeria striker Brown Ideye from Dynamo Kiev for a club-record fee believed to be around £10m. The 25-year-old has signed a three-year contract with the option of another year and becomes the Baggies’ fifth new arrival of the summer. “Brown is a quality striker and I’m looking forward to working with him,” said new head coach Alan Irvine. “He’s a strong, quick, powerful player who likes to get in behind defences and has plenty of Champions League and international experience.” Brown Ideye was part of the team, that won the Africa Nations Cup in 2013.

HIV Infection Drops By 35 Percent In Nigeria Says United Nations

Late Kefee's husband angry at Nigerian press

Late Kefee's husband Teddy Don-Momoh is not happy with the Nigerian press and has made his feelings known. He accused the press of reporting lies about the cause of his wife's death and events leading up to her burial.


Speaking about his displeasure, Teddy told reporters;

Lagos state okays six-month maternity leave, 10 days for fathers

Lagos state government has introduced a new leave regime for all male and female civil servants in the state. Henceforth, all male civil servants whose wives give birth are entitled to a 10-day paternity leave while female civil servants had their maternity leave extended from 3 months to 6 months.

The new leave regime was announced today by the Lagos State Head of Service, Mrs Josephine Williams at a press conference held at the Baguada Kaltho Press Centre, in Alausa, Ikeja.
"A female officer shall be entitled to 24-weeks maternity leave with full pay in case of her first two deliveries. The said leave shall commence, at least two weeks before the expected delivery date; a male officer, to who a new baby (or babies in case of multiple births) is born shall be entitled to 10 working days" she said.
She added that subsequent deliveries after the second baby by any employee will only get 12 weeks maternity leave for a female officer while the men will not be entitled to the 10-day leave.

Special adviser to the Lagos state Governor on public health, Dr Yewande Adeshina, said the 6 months leave will enable women complete the mandatory months required for breastfeeding new born babies.

First photos of passengers of plane that was shot down, including 80 children

298 people died yesterday July 17th when Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 was blasted out of the sky at 32,000 by a surface-to-air missile, allegedly by pro-Russian rebels.

Among the dead were 80 children, including three Australian children, (pictured left), Mo Maslin, 12, (left), his brother Otis, eight, (centre) and sister Evie Maslin, 10, (right) who were traveling with their grandfather Nick Morris. According to Australian newspapers, the family had been on holiday and the children’s parents had remained in Amsterdam for a few extra days while Mr Norris took his grandchildren on MH17 to get them back to Australia in time for school. The plane was going from Kuala Lumpur to Australia.

More than 100 AIDS researchers who were heading to an international conference in Australia were also on board the plane.


There were 173 passengers from the Netherlands, 27 from Australia, 44 from Malaysia, 12 from Indonesia, 9 from the UK, 4 from Belgium, 4 from Germany, 3 from Philippines, 1 from Canada and from New Zealand. See more photos after the cut...

Nigeria Moves 10 Spots On Latest FIFA Ranking

Nigeria has risen 10 points to the 34th position in the latest FIFA ranking released on Thursday.
The Super Eagles occupied the 44th position before the just concluded World Cup in Brazil.
Nigeria is currently ranked 3rd in Africa, behind Algeria (24) and Côte d’Ivoire (25).

'Those who want to take power through the backdoor will die' - Gov Akpabio

The Governor of Akwa Ibom state Godswill Akpabio has pronounced death on any politician who tries to gain political power through the backdoor come 2015, adding that the PDP in the state will continue ruling the state. The Governor made this declaration yesterday July 16th at the ground breaking ceremony for the construction of the new PDP Secretariat in Uyo, the state capital. He also stated that all those who betrayed him in politics would not enter into the government house
"Just as God threw Lucifer unto the Earth, those who have betrayed the governor of Akwa Ibom State will not enter the Government House. And because of impatience, Absalom (son to King David) wanted to take over by killing King David. And when David heard, he asked the people to leave him. This did not end up well with Absalom. He died before his father. Those who want to take power through the backdoor will die and the PDP will continue,” he said.

Nyanya Explosion: INTERPOL hands over alleged mastermind to Nigeria

The mastermind of the April 14th Nyanya bomb blast, Aminu Sadiq Ogwuche, who fled to Sudan after the bombing, has been arrested and handed over to Nigerian Security officials by INTERPOL.

29 year old Sadiq, believed to have been radicalized while studying at the South Wales University in Sudan, was arrested on May 14th and was only extradited today to Nigeria.

Security operatives arrest fake Boko Haram

The Defence Headquarters has announced the arrest of a man who specializes in creating panic by sending out text messages threatening attack by Boko Haram terrorists.


The suspect, Ugwu Lawrence (pictured) who was tracked by security operatives after dispatching text messages of impending bombings of some hotels in Abuja, confessed that he employed the gimmick because the management of one of the organisation failed to offer him employment.

The suspect further confessed that his motive was a ploy to instil fear in the mind of the management’s chairman, and pleaded that he is actually not a terrorist. The suspect is still undergoing further interrogation preparatory to prosecution.

Oscar Pistorius in nightclub fight after a man confronts him over murder trial

He's still in court facing charges for the murder of his girlfriend but that didn't stop him from having an incident at a nightclub when a man confronted him about the trial. Don't think this will be good for his case.

According to reports, Oscar went to a nightclub in Pretoria on Saturday night with his cousin & after some drinks, allegedly insulted South Africa's president Zuma and started acting "aggressive."

He was allegedly pushed into a chair after he poked another clubber in the chest who asked him something about his trial.
