South Africa United In Grief As Fallen Hero Is Laid To Rest

South Africa Senzo Meyiwa
South Africa is united in grief after fallen hero Senzo Meyiwa was laid to rest at an emotional service in Durban on Saturday.

Not since the funeral of world statesman Nelson Mandela last December, has there been such an outpouring of emotion.

The Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana goalkeeper and captain Meyiwa was shot dead in a botched armed robbery in Vosloorus outside Johannesburg last Sunday.

There was an immediate outpouring of grief as the nation tried to come to terms with the senseless tragedy.

What made the 27-year-old’s death more heart-wrenching was the fact that his appointment as national captain had coincided with a remarkable turnaround in the team’s performance.

Boko Haram reportedly kills scores of Christians in Adamawa today

Several people were reportedly killed today, Sunday, 2 November, 2014 when Boko Haram insurgents attacked a predominantly Christian community of Sabon Gari on the border of Borno and Adamawa state.

According to Sahara Reporters, residents fleeing the affected communities informed that the insurgents arrived their villages Sunday morning and slaughtered several people as they were heading to church.

Though details of the tragic incident are still being expected, it was reported three days ago that Nigerian troops in the area had fled after Mubi, the second biggest in Adamawa state, fell to the militants.
