No fewer than 24 people reportedly lost their lives in a suicide blast which occurred in Damaturu, the Yobe State capital.
At least 21 others were equally injured in the same blast, residents of Damaturu told EDF Reporter.
According to them, the blast which occurred at a viewing centre also left pieces of human parts scattered at the scene of the blast Tuesday night.
Doctors and nurses at the emergency ward of the Sani Abatcha General Hospital described the incident as horrific.
Also a relative of one of the injured persons at the hospital, Mala Sheriff told EDF that the suicide bomber came in a Keke NAPEP, and was shouting “allahu Akbar” as he rammed into the crowd watching football at the viewing centre.
“We told our people not to go to the viewing centre to watch football as NTA is broadcasting the match, but some of our youths are so attached to the viewing centre where they can shout and do all sorts of things.
“Well, it has happened and there is nothing anyone can do about it. The killer also went with them, it remains between him and Allah”, he said.
He, however, said that the police were doing everything possible to avert re-occurrence of such in the state.
