Ijaw Youths Urge Army To Flush Out Officers Aiding Boko Haram

The Ijaw National Congress, INC, on Sunday hinted that for the Nigerian Army to successfully put an end to the menace of Boko Haram in the country, its needs to first and foremost flush out the officers aiding the sect members.

The organization’s spokesperson, Victor Borubo, who made this known in an interview pointed out that it would be difficult to fight Boko Haram to a standstill without a focus and a high level of patriotism among the Nigerian soldiers.   

The spokesman alleged that Nigerian soldiers would have long rescued the kidnapped Chibok girls if it had gotten rid of the bad eggs currently in the army, and condemned the fact that the girls have been missing for over two months now.

“For Nigeria to succeed in the fight against terrorism, the military must purge itself of bad eggs, fifth columnists and Boko Haram collaborators. The war against terrorism cannot be won without a high level of patriotism among soldiers,” Borubo said.

The INC spokesman while speaking on the complaint of poor funding by the military advised them to make do with the resources at its disposal and noted that other sectors in the country were also facing the same challenges.

“It is necessary to say that the military should manage the resources at its disposal. The Nigerian military has shown that it is among the best in the world,” he said.

Borubo urged the Federal Government to cut down on its expenses and cede some of the funds to the military to enable it curb insurgency, stressing  that government should not to surrender to any pressure to swap the detained sect members for the freedom of the abducted Chibok schoolgirls.  

The organisation spokesman, who described the Islamist as murderers, argued that agreeing to swap their brethren for the girls would show bad precedence for the country, noting that instead of swapping, Government should explore other means of ensuring their rescue. 

 “They (Federal Government) cannot swap criminals and murderers with innocent schoolgirls. Those girls have not committed any crime and were only stolen by Boko Haram from their school. Swapping Boko Haram with those girls means setting a bad precedence. It means members of the sect will wake up another day, kidnapped schoolchildren and ask for the release of their detained members. Government should find other ways of rescuing the kidnapped girls. It is not compulsory that they should free criminals and allow them to become a threat to our society again” Borubo said.
