1. Fresh tragedy was said to have occurred in Borno on Wednesday when gunmen suspected to be Boko Haram terrorists stormed Belgeri village in Konduga council of the state in over 12 Toyota Hilux vehicles and motorcycles laden with Improvised Explosive Devices (IED). Report says over 45 people were shot dead and several houses destroyed.
2. There was an online report on Thursday evening that the government house in Gombe state was bombed. The report says the incident happened late afternoon. It was further reported that security operatives, fire-fighters and other emergency workers were seen in the scene of the incident trying to bring situation under control. It was gathered that at least, two soldiers were killed in the blast, while six others got injured.
3. Members of the Pro-Biafra group, Biafra Zionists Federation, BZF, under the leadership of Benjamin Onwuka were at the state radio house on Thursday, in an attempt to take over the Enugu State radio station. However, their plot failed as the police intervened and got them arrested. One Police officer and a member of the group were killed during shootout. Report also says a Police Inspector was equally injured.
4. Having gotten wind of plans by the United Nations to cede 8 more local governments to Cameroun, youths from Boki Local Government Area are set to engage the Nigerian soldiers, who are guiding the UN team on ground for the exercise. They said they are not ready to give up even a local government, let alone 8 more.
5. President Goodluck Jonathan said, yesterday, that the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, was not bothered over the defection of some aggrieved Governors from the Party, saying that the party was making progress and its governors were performing. While speaking at the National Secretariat of the PDP at the 65th National Executive Committee, NEC, meeting, Jonathan said some of the defected Governors cannot win elections even in their wards.
6. Students of the Lagos State University, LASU, yesterday barricaded the entrance to the Lagos government house, Alausa protesting the hike in their school fees. The student union leadership of the school vowed to keep protesting until the fee hike is reversed.
7. The bring back our girls protesters under the leadership of former Education Minister, Obi Ezekwesili have cried out over government’s retrogressive roles in the attempt to secure the release of the Chibok school girls. The group has said that instead of the government to join them in the campaign against the nation’s enemy, it has decided to politicise the campaign by creating other groups opposing to their own group.
8. The National Confab yesterday resolved that there was no need to review Nigeria’s workers minimum wage as proposed by a member, insisting that it was unnecessary to increase minimum wage to N40, 000 as proposed. The Conference also recommended that all Ministries should stop collecting application fee from job seekers.
9. The House of Representative Speaker, Aminu Tambuwal has told his colleagues yesterday that members would not be intimidated by public officers who are being investigated by the House, saying that some individuals are bent at frustrating legislative hearings on their matters when called to say their own side of the story. Tambuwal was speaking at an event marking the end of the third session of the current 2011-2015 legislative tenure.
10. For banning the #BringBacktheGirls campaign, the All Progressives Congress has called for the immediate dismissal of the Commissioner of Police, Federal Capital Territory, Mr. Joseph Mbu. The Party through Rivers State Chairman of the APC, Dr. Davies Ikanya, said in a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media, that even though Mbu’s decision had been overruled by the IG of Police, his action was an embarrassment to the Nigeria Police, hence he must be sacked.
