Second Son Succeeds The Late Emir Of Gombe

The Gombe State Government on Friday approved the appointment of Alhaji Abubakar Shehu-Abubakar as the new Emir of Gombe.
He succeeds his late father, Alhaji Shehu Abubakar, who died in a London hospital on May 27, 2014.
Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Abubakar Bage, presented the letter of appointment to the new emir at the Gombe Central Mosque on Friday.
Shehu-Abubakar, who will be enthroned as the 11th Emir of Gombe, is the second son of the late emir. Until his appointment, he was the Santurakin Gombe.
Governor Ibrahim Dankwambo reconstituted the council of kingmakers of the emirate after the death of his father; and out of 10 applicants for the throne; they submitted the names of three candidates to the government.

After consultations with stakeholders, Dankwambo approved the appointment of Shehu-Abubakar.
Chief Imam of Gombe Central Mosque, Khadi Aliyu Pindiga, presented a copy of the Holy Quran to the new emir on Friday.
Born on December 17, 1977, in Gombe town, the new emir attended Gombe Children Primary School, Gombe, between 1982 and 1988; and Government Science Secondary School, Gombe, between 1989 and 1995.
He also attended the University of Maiduguri from 2001 to 2005, graduating with a Bachelor's Degree in Political Science.

He became the Supervisory Councillor in the Gombe Local Government Council between 2006 and 2007, after which he became Personal Assistant to the Director of Administration, Ministry of Defence, Abuja, from 2007 to 2009.

He was subsequently Chairman, Kliptown Lagoon Nigeria Ltd., as well as Executive Director, Horizon Interlinks Global Resources.

Alhaji Shehu Abubakar, the former emir, died on May 27, 2014, in London. Like his son who has now taken over from him, he succeeded his own late father as the 10th Emir of Gombe in 1984.

Until his death, he was Chairman of the Gombe State Council of Emirs and Chiefs before his death.
